Trip initiator’s Clinic
Access to all that equipment and vehicles to do trips
when and where I want!? Yep! Become an OP trip
initiator: it’s easy! The first night covers OP philosophy,
liability, trip planning, and procedures. Saturday we’ll
go over the use of the equipment facility (The Barn), our
equipment, the vehicles, safety procedures, and more. Attendance at
both sessions is required to become a river trip initiator. Free!

Avalanche Au/areness Clinic
This two-part clinic is co-sponsored
by the City of Eugene River House
Outdoor Program and instructed by
Melvin Mann. The free evening pre
sentation covers avalanche types,
hazard estimation, route selection, rescue tech
niques & equipment. The $35 (pre-register)
Saturday clinic gives participants a chance to dig
snow pits, analyze snow conditions and see first
hand what avalanche conditions look like.
Preregister at the OP office or at City of Eugene, River House.

Ular & Poetrq in Greenland
Some of the tallest, sheerest granite cliffs in the world rise out
of the fjords of Southern Greenland. Noted big wall climber
Paul Piana narrates a film of his ascent on a cold, soaring
3,600-foot granite turret. The film illustrates Paul’s captivating story
of being trapped in hanging porta-ledges while enduring twelve day
storms, and the fulfillment of successfully ascending one of the
world’s most spectacular granite walls. Free to students & OP Coop
members, $2 general admission.

Pic Axe Film
This film details the events that occured after 9,000 acres of
protected old-growth forest burned at Warner Creek. To stop
the proposed “salvage” logging of this area, activists locked
themselves to barrels, built forts across roads, and dug trenches.
Scenes include confrontations with loggers, mass arrests, and other
experiences of the activists. Crafted from footage shot by more than two
dozen of the Warner Creek activists. Principal photography and direction
are by videographerTim Lewis, award winner at WorldFest ‘98. Codirector/
producer Tim Ream was involved in the action on and off the screen.

Backcountrq Skiing & camping
The backcountry in winter holds some of
the best snow and the most stunning
scenery around; knowing how to travel in
it safely is a must for a successful trip. Outdoor
Program Coordinator, Dan Geiger, will present
information on the equipment, techniques, back
country skiing and the construction of snow
shelters and use videos to inspire you! Free!

Rafting the Tatshenshini
The Tatshenshini offers one of the most powerful wild river
experiences in the world. Surrounded by 42.000 sq. miles of
protected wilderness, the river cuts throught the heart of the Mt.
St. Elias Range with it's huge glaciers and drops it's thick sediment load
in the waters of Glacier Bay National Park. Last June the Outdoor
Program made it's first descent of the "Tat"; a magical trip filled with
grizzlies, glaciers, icebergs, and wildflowers. Photographer and OP
Coordinator, Dan Geiger, will bring some the Tat magic to campus in
a multimedia presentation of the trip. If you love wild rivers, be sure to
mark this event on your calendar! Free!
