Or looking for a quaint coffee house without the hustle, bustle and corporate stigma of Starbucks? The University area provides quite an outlet for quirky little caffeine stops within walking or bicycling distance from campus. Allan Brothers Beanery Though it’s a bit of a lengthy stroll from campus, Allan Brothers Beanery is well worth the walk. r." :.—_i Nestled next to Jamie's Hamburgers at 2465 Hilyard St., the Beanerv is a quiet and relaxing stop for that cof fee or snack fix. Boasting not only a variety of beverages — ranging from gourmet and organic coffee to Odwalla Juice and herbal teas — but also lunch eon items including quiche, lasagna and sandwiches, the Beanery is able to cater to more than just the breakfast crowd. Open early to late, the Beanerv features breakfast specials such as a pastry and 12-ounce coffee for Catharine Kendall Emerald Sometimes a cup of joe, easily found on or off campus, is a student’s best friend. Situated at 825 E. 13th Ave., Espresso Roma bears the marks of a recent renova tion. complete with cheerful yellow and orange paint designed to help kick start vour dav. With a very large indoor and some outdoor seating, Espresso Roma serves as a quiet haven for studying students to escape the sterility of the classroom and the boisterous vendors on 13th Avenue. The walls are adorned with artwork and the sound of classical music wafts in the background. Besides coffee. Espresso Roma specializes in croissants, ranging in price from SI.10 for plain to S2.50 for ham and cheese. Scones and bagels also are offered as accompa niments for coffee or the alterna tives of herbal or chai tea. For those in need of a serious coffee fix, beans bv the pound are available for sale. Monday - Friday 5:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Cafe Siena Only three doors down from Espresso Roma, Cafe Siena offers a slightly less extensive coffee drink offering, but makes up with its of You Know You’re Drinking Too Much Coffee When... You answer the door before people knock. You ski uphill. You grind your coffee beans in your mouth. You’re the employee of the month at a coffeehouse and you don’t even work there. With a full-service espresso bar, baked goods, entrees and sal ads, The Buzz offers students a good variety of generic lunch items for a moderate price and is located on the ground floor of the EMU The Greatful Bread is more geared towards the morning person, opening at 7 a.m, and serving a wide variety of baked delicacies, in? eluding some really incredible cookies. They also offer a full-serv ice espresso bar with the- same prices as The Buzz and are located in the fishbowl on the main floor of the EMU. The Daily Grind concentrates on serving patrons of the library.
