The EMU Craft Center is a comprehensive Arts Program offering well equipped facilities and workshops in most areas of the Visual Arts. The program is both educational and recreational, encouraging all levels of interest, from beginning hobbyist to serious artist. Our intimate, informal workshops are taught by accomplished artists and crafts people. The em phasis is on high quality individual instruction designed to encourage you to pursue your creative side. Most workshops are offered in the late after noon or evening to fit your class or work schedule. We also offer $5 intro ductory workshops (see back page for listing). So, ifyouhave aninterest in art, or a favorite hobby, the EMU Craft Center at the University of Oregon is for you. This workshop will teach you how to mix copper, brass and silver by sol dering them together and then flatten ing them out with the rolling mill. This workshop is limited to intermediate & advanced students with some solder ing experience. 4 hours of instruction. Note: The metal sheet that you create in this workshop will be great material for the Die Forming class on April 29th. PLU#6014 Devore Scarves Lana Elder Delve into this unusual technique of Devore fabric burnout, an etching method of velvet nap removal, which creates unique depth & layers in the fabric. Start on a traditional drop spindle & move rapidly to the spinning wheel. The art of natural & synthetic dyeing will be discussed. 10 hours of instruction. Term pass required. Max was a professor ofMetalsmithing, Jewelry & Weaving at the University of Oregon department of Fine & Applied Arts from 1956- 1989. He then continued as resident artist at the EMU Craft Center from 1990 - 2000. Max was an integral part of the Craft Center history, having served on the original facility design team, & on the EMU board in the late 70's & early 80's. Max was an inspiration to us all. He greeted the day with a smile, & had a clear vision of the goodness found in everyday life. Our deepest sentiments go out to all of the many friends who's lives he touched, & especially to his wife, Hattie Mae Nixon. *Max will be forever in our hearts * We will truly miss him A celebration of Max's life will be held on March 31, at 5.-00 pm in Gerlinger Lounge, on the U of O campus.
