The argument is that 73 year old McArthur Court is n’t up to par with the rest of the league’s arenas, includ ing the newest: California’s 12,172-seat Haas Pavilion where the Ducks (17-5 overall, 8-3 Pacific-10 Con ference) knocked off the Golden Bears 64-60 Satur day night. As Oregon players and coaches talked Monday at Mac Court, opinions were mixed on their impressions of Cal’s new $57.5 million home. “They were pretty loud, but you know, it’s just like any other gym once you get into it,” senior point guard Darius Wright said. “I like Mac Court better because I feel it’s a lot easier to play with everybody so close to you.” Oregon senior forward A.D. Smith has a unique perspective because he was the only Duck to play in California’s old Harmon Gym, which was renovated to form Haas Pavilion. Cal played the last two years at the New Arena in Oakland. “I loved what they did to the place,” said Smith, whose 21 points on Satur Turn to Men's notes, page 8 Emerald Continuing his development, 7-footer Chris Christophersen saw nine minutes against Stanford. Oregon still struggling with inconsistency Emerald Shaquala Williams pushes the ball ahead. ■ Shaquala Williams is having a rough time shooting from the perimeter Women’s Notes By Scott Pesznecker Oregon Daily Emerald Sophomore Ndidi Unaka’s 10-point performance against California capped a trio of breakout games that began with sophomore Alyssa Fredrick in late January and freshman Kourtney Shreve earlier this month. To the delight of the Ducks, the bench has sparked Oregon in some much-needed times. And if the Ducks’ role players continue to improve, Oregon could become an even more dangerous conference opponent. But what has been happening to the Ducks’ most potent offensive weapon? The shooting touch of point guard Shaquala Williams is one of Oregon’s game-to-game question marks. Her elevated status from last season makes her a target for opposing defenses, taking away opportu nities to drive up the middle. Turn to Women, page 8
