As members of the ASUO we may reasonably expect our student government to pursue our best interests in all that it does. Whether that means exercising caution when deal ing with student fees, con stantly reviewing its own deci sions and, most importantly, keeping in touch with both the interests and concerns of the student body as a whole, I believe that I am qualified to do so. Senate Seat #16 Waweru Gatimu Greetings, my name is Waweru Peter Gatimu, some of you may know me as Roolyfe, Hollywood, the StyleWriter, Scratch ‘n’ Sniff and/or just plain funny man on campus. I am running for the Science Seat #16. Just like the Periodic Table, I have elements. Carbon, Oxygen, Thallium, Nitrogen, Gold Silver ... Oops, I mean my qualifica tions: • Knowledgeable • Experience • Motivation • Results • Action Being an African-American, I would strongly like to see more recruitment and reten tion of students of color and faculty (especially science department) to the excellent school we all choose to attend— The University of Oregon. I will make it my job to work and fight for students, honor diversity, and try to lis ten to the students’ voices on issues. We depend on the University to enhance our education, as well as our lives. The key elements are: • The Diverstiy 2000 • Campus Safety • University Housing [being] more responsive I intend to bring the per spective of the average stu dent to the decision-making process. I support the re-estab lishment of OSPIRG at the University of Oregon and urge all students to Vote Yes for OSPIRG in the elections plus for Waweru Gatimu.As a sci ence student I strongly see the needs most science students have on campus. VOTE FOR CHANGE. VOTE PROGRESSIVE! Remember if you do not stand for something, you will fall for anything. Senate Seat #17 Mike Dixon I want you to vote! I want you to think before you vote! What do you want as a stu dent? A positive change on campus? You have the voting power to change this campus, but only by voting for people that want that same change. I want to be your voice and bring this campus to its full potential. The Student Senate repre sents the entire student body regarding the allocation of funds to various student orga nizations and clubs. As a cur rent Student Senator, I have felt it is very important that all University Students are well represented.This means all cultures, religions and races, without outside bias. Diversity is a major key for success, and the Senate must be a diverse body to represent students well. Having a strong interna tional background, I will help represent diversity better on this campus. If elected to Student Senate, I will make sure that this campus moves towards a more diverse future, funds are distributed fairly and most importantly, that the student voice is heard. I also support the re-establishment of OSPIRG and urge all students to Vote Yes for OSPIRG. VOTE FOR CHANGE! VOTE PRO GRESSIVE! James Eddy Students at the University of Oregon pay approximately $475.00 in incidental fees each year. In order to make college education more acces sible to all students I propose that we control the growth of incidental fees. I believe that student groups contribute to the diversity of our campus, and are an essential part of a well rounded education. As senator, I would work to increase student participation in all aspects of campus life. This would increase aware ness as to how funds are spent, which is necessary if we are to slow the growth of the incidental fee.The rising cost of tuition is also a con cern for many students. I would work with the state leg islators to continue the cur rent freeze on tuition.Through student awareness and activism, we can achieve our goals of cutting costs without impairing the diversity of our school. If elected to Student Senate, I will work to control the growing costs that stu dents face. Being active in stu dent politics, I know what problems students encounter and I will always work in your best interest. I am dependable, honest and hard working.
