As a member of this committee last year, I learned about each aspect of the budget process and will use this knowledge to develop a smooth transition for both student groups and new Programs Finance Committee members. In addition, as a new mem ber of the Student of Senate, I want to work with students faculty, administrators and pro grams for: • Increased lighting and cam pus safety so that students can feel safe walking alone at night. • More diversity on campus so that students and faculty of color have more representa tion at the University. • Decreasing the fee that stu dents pay to move out of University Housing. Overall, I can effectively lis ten to and represent the con cerns of students on the Programs Finance Committee and the Student Senate. I strongly support the re-estab lishment of OSPIRG and urge all students to vote yes for OSPIRG. VOTE FOR CHANGE. VOTE PROGRESSIVE! PFC Seat #3 Mo Morrison My name is Mo Morrison. I am running for Programs Finance Committee (PFC) sen ator. A PFC senator is responsi ble for allocating over two mil lion dollars to more than eighty ASUO programs. If elected I want to focus on improving: • Campus Safety: Rally for bet ter lighting on campus. • More efficient conduct code. • Diversity: Work toward hir ing and retaining more facul ty of color. • Recruiting more students of color. • Student Funding: Increasing the knowledge committee members have on issues that effect student funds. I am currently the pro grams committee member of PFC, and I am the director of Project Saferide. Both of these positions give me the added edge the PFC senate seat needs to make informed deci sions that students will benefit from. My ultimate goal is to bring a more diverse group of people and ideas to the sen ate. I strongly support the re establishment of OSPIRG at the UO and urge all students to Vote YES for OSPIRG in the elections. SO VOTE FOR CHANGE, VOTE PROGRES SIVE! Rec & Fitness (1-year seat) Erin McLaughlin I am sure you have seen the new recreation facilities now being built. Your student inci dental fees help fund these recreation and fitness pro grams. Along with increased facilities come many decisions on further development and usage. I spend several hours a day in our recreation facilities playing pick-up games or working out. I also play, offici ate and supervise the intra mural sports, which use these facilities. If I am not playing hard, I am working as an ath letic trainer for everyone who is working hard. I understand the needs and desires of active students who use our facili ties. My experience and involvement has shown me the recreation programs from many angles and makes me a good voice for all students who spend countless hours at Esslinger. I am very excited about the new recreation and fitness center and represent ing you on the advisory board. Joseph Neron (no statement) Senate Seat #9 Jamilia Singleton Student voice is essential to a fun, educational and tolera ble campus life.The experi ence behind the voice pro vides service to all students. I have represented students on the Athletic Department Finance Committee (ADFC) for winter term, along with being the co-director of the Black Student Union and an advocator for increased cam pus diversity. Change can hap pen in the Student Senate. Working with the Athletic Deptartment to keep inciden tal fees AFFORDABLE for all students, keep desired tickets in Mac Court and Autzen Stadium. Negotiating for more usage of these facilities for concerts and other student events. Student control of student fees, campus safety and increasing campus diversity are issues I strongly advocate for on Senate. The Student Senate needs a diverse group of qualified, honest, committed leaders in order to achieve these goals. To bring my voice to this body insures your voice is heard and the campus is a more diverse environment for our education. We will work together to make change. Vote for change. Vote Progressive. Vote Jamila Singleton for Senate. OSP1RG is one of only two groups working to protect stu dent control of student fees, and I strongly urge students to vote Yes to re-establish OSPIRG. Senate Seat #11 Ryan Lawrence We have some big prob lems on this University. People feel unsafe walking across campus late at night, University Housing is unre sponsive to the needs of stu dents, and minority students of color feel out of place with our lack of campus diversity. The answer to these problems is to elect students who care about these issues and are willing to challenge the administration status quo. I and my Progressive colleagues are ready and able to tackle these issues by supporting and sponsoring better lighting on campus, holding University Housing accountable to the needs of students and sup porting and retaining students and faculty of color. The only way that these issues can be met is if stu dents are able to keep control of our student incidental fee. This fee funds student activi ties on campus, from the Student Unions to the Outdoor Club.The best way that students can protect their interests and have their voices heard is to support groups like OSA and OSPIRG, that fight for the rights of students in our legislature. I will work hard to see these changes brought to the University. I will work for a safer, more diverse campus. Remember to vote for change, Vote Progressive. David Sanchez In campaigning for the ASUO Senate, I emphasize three related issues: (1) Retaining our democratic stu dent incidental fee system and ensuring this system runs effe ciently and effectively as possi ble; (2) Emphasize student involvement in all aspects of university life; and (3) Encourage a better sense of community on campus. Specifically, I will pursue the following goals: • In response to recent con troversies regarding the stu dent incidental fee (includ ing issues raised during the recent ASUO Special Election and the current Oregon legislative session), I will seek to provide more information about our stu dent incidental fee system, how program budgets are allocated and why the inci dental fee system is the cor nerstone of a democratic student government. • Ensure students are repre sented on every possible university committee. • Encourage students from underrepresented groups to be more active in the ASUO. • Advocate a greater sense of mutual respect and civility within the ASUO, especially among opposing groups.
