Eleven years, 23 games and one magical
night for Lindsey Dion and the Oregon
women's basketball team.
Paced by Dion’s 14 points and game-high
four steals, the Ducks held on to defeat Stan
ford 63-59 Monday night in front of 5,009
rowdy fans at McArthur Court.
After the game, Oregon head coach Jody
Runge said the victo
ry, the first for the
Ducks over the Car
dinal since 1987, was
inevitable despite
eight lead changes and a technical foul
called on Ducks’ assistant coach Fred Litzen

berger with less than a minute to go in the
second half.
“I just never felt the game was in doubt for
us,” Runge said. “We were just playing so
well defensively, and we’d been able to
match their intensity level time and time
again.”
Oregon (11-2 overall, 2-0 Pacific-10 Con
ference) held the Cardinal to its second-low
est scoring output of the season and just 36
percent shooting from the field. Oregon cen
ter Jenny Mowe had a season-high six
blocked shots to go along with 10 points and
eight rebounds.
“It was such a thrill,” Mowe said. “We just

Nicole Strange had a difficult task ahead
of her as she took the floor against Stanford
on Monday. She would be starting for in
jured guard Lisa Bowyer, a senior who leads
the team in steals, assists, three-point shoot
ing and minutes played.
Even when faced with such a daunting
challenge, Strange delivered.
The 5-foot-10 junior was a key factor in
perhaps the biggest win of her Oregon ca
reer. Strange tallied 10 points, four re
bounds and three steals in the Ducks' win
over Stanford — their first win against the
Cardinal since 1987.
But it was her timing that really mattered.
With 13 minutes, 58 seconds remaining in
the second half, Strange nailed a jump shot
to tie the game at 41, causing mayhem in
McArthur Court.
“I feel like I’m dreaming,” Strange said.
“We were determined to win this game no
matter what. And the crowd was like our
sixth man. It was an awesome game.”
