Students frequently flow into the hallways for classes, and informal and for mal meeting areas for students are nonexistent. “We need to better serve the needs of our students,” Murray said. The needs of the students in clude accommodating modern teaching styles to benefit the ed ucational process, Terborg said. “The way work is being done is different, and the building just isn’t keeping up,” Terborg said. Team projects, hands-on learn ing and integrating technology into the classroom are common place and necessary teaching tools now, Murray said. Renova tion is necessary to facilitate these sorts of tools, he said. Of the $16.35 million needed, $3.55 million will come from state matching funds and the re mainder will come from private gifts and fund raising. Frohnmayer to address campus University President Dave Frohnmayer will discuss changes to meet the chal lenges of limited state fund ing, new student needs and the proposed state budget model in his State of the Uni versity Address today at 3 p.m. in 150 Columbia. The address will begin at approximately 3:15 p.m. after a brief announcement and will be followed by the intro duction of new faculty. Multicultural Center to host receptions The Multicultural Center will host two opening recep tions for students today. Information about the MCC and its resources will be avail able at an open house from 1-3 p.m. The MCC offers a wide range of services to students, from opportunities to work on activist issues to its library of information on national and international issues. Program advocate Huy Ong said the MCC “provides this campus with a way to net work students with common concerns and issues that don’t just include students of col or.” APASU, the Asian/Pacific American Student Union, will offer an informational meeting for people interested in join ing today at 5 p.m. in the MCC.
