Dinner provided a chance

Student leaders and adminis
trators took a trip back to the
Hamilton Complex cafeteria for a
special get-to-know-you dinner
Tuesday night.
The dinner gave student lead
ers from the ASUO, Student Sen
ate, student programs and cam
pus publications the opportunity
to rub elbows with University ad
ministrators including President
Dave Frohnmayer and Provost
John Moseley.
“You can’t get much done if
you don’t cooperate with the ad
ministration,” Student Senator
Dan Reid said. “We’re not as ef
fective if we don’t work togeth
er.”
Interfraternity Council Presi
dent Steve Sutton said the event
was an opportunity for leaders to
put a face to a name and shake
hands with the administrators so
cially.
Frohnmayer encouraged the 30
student leaders gathered at the
event to accept the challenge of
the recent transformation of the
Oregon University System and
participate in improving the Uni
versity community and educa
tion.
“You have a profound oppor
tunity to make a difference for
good,” he said. “You also have
the opportunity to blow it and
take the easy way out by cheap
deals or lying to students.”
When asked what it meant to
be a student leader, several stu
dents paused before answering.
“The biggest thing is stay in
touch with die students,” Senator
Jereme Grzybowski said. “I am
here to do whatever I can to make
the campus experience better for
students.”
The ASUO Executive ad
dressed the group with its plans
to campaign for voter registra
tion, child care and campus safe
ty
“Imagine what campus would
be like without student leaders,”
Student Senator Jessica Timpany
said. “It would be run by admin
istrators.”

Drive. Intensity. Those aren’t words you’re likely to see in
many course requirements. Then again, Army ROTC is unlike
any other elective. It's hands-on excitement.
ROTC will challenge you mentally and physically through
intense leadership training. Training that builds confidence,
character and decision-making skills. Again, words other
courses seldom use. But they’re the credits you need to
succeed in life.
ROTC is open to freshman and sophomores without
obligation and requires about five hours per week. Register
this term for an Army ROTC elective. Find out more. Call
