Campus leaders meet, eat Dinner provided a chance for student and University officials to rub elbows in a social atmosphere By Kristina Rudinskas Oregon Daily Emerald Student leaders and adminis trators took a trip back to the Hamilton Complex cafeteria for a special get-to-know-you dinner Tuesday night. The dinner gave student lead ers from the ASUO, Student Sen ate, student programs and cam pus publications the opportunity to rub elbows with University ad ministrators including President Dave Frohnmayer and Provost John Moseley. “You can’t get much done if you don’t cooperate with the ad ministration,” Student Senator Dan Reid said. “We’re not as ef fective if we don’t work togeth er.” Interfraternity Council Presi dent Steve Sutton said the event was an opportunity for leaders to put a face to a name and shake hands with the administrators so cially. Frohnmayer encouraged the 30 student leaders gathered at the event to accept the challenge of the recent transformation of the Oregon University System and participate in improving the Uni versity community and educa tion. “You have a profound oppor tunity to make a difference for good,” he said. “You also have the opportunity to blow it and take the easy way out by cheap deals or lying to students.” When asked what it meant to be a student leader, several stu dents paused before answering. “The biggest thing is stay in touch with die students,” Senator Jereme Grzybowski said. “I am here to do whatever I can to make the campus experience better for students.” The ASUO Executive ad dressed the group with its plans to campaign for voter registra tion, child care and campus safe ty “Imagine what campus would be like without student leaders,” Student Senator Jessica Timpany said. “It would be run by admin istrators.” (Reported from Sept. 23 to Sept. 29) Sept. 25, Taken from Bean Complex: bike.
