peat her performance from last
season, when she finished second
to UCLA’s Suzy Powell as a fresh
man. Powell enters this season’s
meet again the No. 1-ranked
javelin thrower.

tively. Howell sat out the May 15
Oregon Twilight meet to rest an
ailing elbow.

the 1,500 meters for the double
she attempted at last year’s Pac
10s, the 3,000 and 5,000 meters.
Davis finished fifth and sev
enth, respectively, in those
events last season but is expect
ed to challenge Arizona’s Amy
Skieresz for both titles this
weekend. Skieresz won both

Elstrom comes into the meet on
a hot streak, having vaulted 12
feet, one inch or 12-2 in five of her
last six meets. The Pac-10 leader
is Stanford’s Melissa Feinstein,
who will be vaulting at home. Fe
instein’s season-best mark of 12-7
1/4 is a quarter inch shorter than
Elstrom's personal best.

“She has a chance to win the
long jump,” Heinonen said.
“She’s got the third best mark
coming in.”
