Women’s tennis team down to four healthy players The team will be forced to forfeit at least two singles matches and one doubles match By Tim Pyle Freelance Sports Reporter With only four players healthy enough to play, the Oregon women’s tennis team faces a weekend trip to Southern Califor nia that does not look promising. Because of injuries to team cap tain Allison Sosnow, Sarah Col istro, Jaime Martin and Milena Glusac, Oregon will be forced to forfeit at least two singles matches and a doubles match in its three dual matches. In other words, the Ducks will concede three of the nine possible team points in each match. “There’s nothing they can do about the five and six singles spots that aren’t being filled,” said head coach Jack Griffin of his available players. “But they can take care of what they need to do on the court for their singles. It won’t be easy. I think we’re at kind of the bottom of our barrel right now.” The Ducks (3-6 overall, 0-2 Pac 10 Conference) compete at Loyola Marymount on Friday and at San Diego State on Saturday before battling Princeton in Vista, Calif., on Sunday. Alina Wygonowska, Andrea Petrovic, Shanelle Kaneshiro and Anne Endrikat are the only Ore gon players available for the week end. Sosnow is expected to be out a couple more weeks with a foot in jury, while Martin (leg stress frac NICK MEDLEY/EMERALD Andrea Petrovic hits a backhand return in doubles action against Washington last Saturday. After last Saturday’s loss to Washington, Griffin said he was hopeful that Colistro and Glusac would be able to play this week end. However, it was discovered that Colistro’s injury is more seri ous — a tendon injury as opposed to a ligament injury — than origi nally diagnosed. The Lions (3-7) present Oregon with its best chance at getting a win this weekend, Griffin said. “I think that they don’t have as good of results as Pacific, who we beat earlier in the year with five players,” Griffin said. “It’s pretty tough when you have four players, but we should be able to have some good individual results. And who knows? You never know what will happen.” The depleted Ducks will be se verely tested in their Saturday match with the No. 26 Aztecs (5 3). San Diego State has defeated three top-70 opponents, while Oregon has suffered all six of its defeats to ranked opponents. The Ducks fell two spots to No. 73 in the latest Rolex Collegiate Tennis Rankings. "l(& Pizza Pipeline, Score jUPizza 686-5808 : 12” 1 Topping Pizza j $£99 | plus one FREE 22 OZ.
