She will perform a one-woman play at 4 p.m. Saturday in 177 Lawrence in which she will portray eight roles in addressing rape and race. “The performance is an in credible, emotional play. It makes you laugh and cry, and so we're hoping to have counselors available after the show," Afzali said. Nakamura said she’s looking forward to participating in the workshops. “These issues are under-repre sented in our classrooms, and they need to be brought up in an open manner,” she said. In Kitzhaber's introduction, his mother said that from what she knew' of him, he was the right man for he job. "He is a fixer and always has been,” she said. Kitzhaber said the decision to run for re-election w'as a hard one to make because of his family and the demands of campaign ing. He said he felt he was ap proaching "a very negative cam paign.” However, he never “felt unfulfilled” as governor, so he decided to run. Republican candidate Bill Sizemore was originally sched uled to make his decision on Thursday in Portland, Eugene, Medford and Redmond as well, but he canceled after Kitzhaber announced identical plans. Size more changed his announcement to Tuesday. As long as his opponent com plies, Kitzhaber said he is will ing to adhere to the voluntary spending limit of $1.5 million on his campaign. “Oregon voters think way too much money is spent on political campaigns,” he said. He also believes the upcoming election represents an important decision for Oregon voters. “This election will determine how Oregon will enter the 21st century,” he said. Q^tatement of O^upport In order to help guarantee a safer, less violent community, students, administrators and faculty members need to support a system that protects our university constituents. The student Conduct Code supposedly does that. However, that process Is In Question right now and the community needs to stand in support of the process. At the same time, our community needs to send a message of support to all survivors of sexual misconduct on campus.
