Angelina Wolvert and Sonja Curtis picked up their fourth foul less than five minutes into the half, making the Ducks almost de fenseless in the low post against the powerful Stanford frontcourt. “It’s tough to play with four fouls,” a frustrated Runge said. “We came out, scored again [in the second half], but we didn’t get very good offensive play out of our guards.” Starting guards Natalie Hughes and Lisa Bowyer, two of the Ducks’ more experienced players, com bined for 17 points and six assists. Bowyer, who is known for her defensive prowess, attempted just two shots in the game, hitting the only three-pointer she attempted. Hughes connected on six of her 16 field-goal attempts for 13 points. While the guards struggled, Meharry, a true freshman forward, continued to play well, hitting six of 13 shots for a team-high 18 points. Jenny Mowe’s presence contin ued to be missed, Meharry said. The 6-foot-5 sophomore didn’t make the trip to the Bay Area because of ten dinitis in her knee and could miss the remainder of the season. Meharry admitted the team is still trying to find itself without Mowe. Oregon returns home to host Southern California on Thursday and UCLA on Saturday. Wolvert led the Ducks with 16 points, and Lisa Bowyer was the only other Duck in double-figures with 11. OREGON (72) Min Strange .. Meharry.. Wolvert .. Hughes .. Bowyer .. Curtis_ O’Brien ..
