Police Beat Two arrested for sale of music instruments Eugene police arrested two Eu gene residents after it was discov ered they were involved in selling stolen musical instruments owned by the University. A female and a male were arrested on Oct. 21 and charged with theft by sales after an investigation by police. The items that were stolen and resold include a guitar, two clar inets, a trombone and a flute. The male admitted to buying the items from a friend and then selling them to a local music store. Student’s backpack stolen near campus A University student’s back pack was stolen after he set it down to play frisbee on Oct. 23. The student set his backpack down on the exterior retaining wall at Condon Hall around 1 p.m., and when he returned about 40 minutes later to pick up, the backpack was gone. The items in the pack included two three-ring notebooks, a text book, several study material handouts, writing supplies and a calculator. The approximate val ue of the items is $312. Police arrest minor for alcohol possession A Eugene man was arrested Oct. 24 after Eugene police found him with an open beer can while walk ing down the street. The 19-year-old man was charged with having an open con tainer of alcohol and minor in pos session near the intersection of 14th Avenue and Patterson Street. He admitted to police that he had just come from a party and drank beer there, but said that he had a “bum” buy the beer for him. His bail was set at $265. Underage student cited for fake license A University student was charged with possessing an in valid driver’s license after an OPS officer noticed a large amount of alcoholic beverage containers in the student's University Inn room. During the evening of Oct. 20, the officer came to the room of the 19-year-old Eugene resident on an unrelated manner. The officer saw the cans and asked the student for his identification. The student gave the officer a driver’s license with a birth date of September 16, 1975, making him of legal drinking age. The officer left the area and con tacted dispatch, giving an opera tor the name and date of birth on the license. The operator checked the information and told the offi cer the student’s actual date of birth was Sept. 16,1978. The officer then returned to the student’s room and asked to see his driver’s license again. After looking closely at the license, the officer was able to tell that the dates had been altered. The student told police he only used the fake card to purchase al cohol and not to enter bars and clubs.
