Student Senate holds short meeting ■ SENATE: The group went over several minor items and made a motion against Senator Michael Bieker By Autumn De Poe Student Activities Reporter After much debate about meet ing attendance quorum require ments, the senate met for a very brief meeting on Wednesday night in the EMU Board Room to dis cuss upcoming activities on cam pus. Additionally, a motion to rep rimand Senator Michael Bieker for non-fullfillment of duties was made and seconded. Senator Kanealii Osorio report ed that there was enough money in the fund-raising account to have an end of the year senate par ty. The ombudsman, Ben Unger, was not present to give an om budsman report. The academic council did not meet, senator Sadie Rogers said, but the senate was reminded that the Student Conduct Code changes will be reviewed by the University Senate soon. Senators Geneva Wortman and Doug Baker reported that the EMU Board will be changing the names of the Cedar Rooms next year. The rooms will be named after the Ore gon rivers Rogue, Motolius, Alsea, Coquille and Umpqua. Baker also responded to a question concern ing Footnotes’ decision to move out of the EMU. Baker reported that the Footnotes’ decision to move had nothing to do with the EMU Board. The Computer Support Tech nology Committee reported that computers were currently being handed out to programs. Senate Rules Committee mem bers stated that they were awaiting word from Senate President Kul pana Krishnamurthy on when the next Rules Committee would be. The Programs Finance Commit tee reported that they were in the process of putting together transi tion materials and there may be a meeting sometime next week with the new Programs Finance Com mittee officers. During the announcement peri od, Senator Sari Wisch reminded the senate that Holocaust Remem berance week activities were con tinuing and she thanked those on the senate who helped to read names. Wortman reported that a num ber of people would be traveling to Salem on Monday at 8 a.m. to hear and lobby against House Bill 36-44, which will take the Univer sity’s control over incidental fees away and give the control over to the Oregon State System of Higher Education. Jenna Wasson approached the senate to urge them all to e-mail, write letters and call University Senators to show support for the Student Conduct Code changes. A motion to bring Senator Michael Bieker up for non-fullfill ment of duties was motioned and seconded. Meeting: Cedar Rooms could be renamed ■ Continued from Page 1 panding soccer field space “to meet growing demands,” said Sandy Vaughn, Club Sports recre ational coordinator. “There is no place else to go for sports fields. Programs are being turned away.” The south bank soccer field could be expanded approximate ly 25 yards, which would cost about $30,000 and would allow more flexibility for club sports such as rugby to practice and have games, Vaughn said. The board approved the request for Club Sports to go to the Student Senate to ask for the funding, and board member Doug Baker recommend ed that the request be made from the senate Over-Realized fund. In addition, the Riverfront Research Park must decide whether to al low for the expansion because the property was given to the park for all decision-making. Also on the board’s agenda was a renaming of the Cedar Rooms A F to names of Oregon rivers, in cluding titles such as Coquille, Umpqua and the Rogue. Footnotes was also discussed briefly, and the board was told that if the business refuses its new space location in the EMU, the board will decide what other or ganization(s) will occupy the space. “That’s [Footnotes’] deci sion to make, so we’ll let them make it,” EMU Director Dusty Miller said. The board also discussed a bid for space from Council Travel. The bid includes perks such as two $500 scholarships and $10,000 to advertise on campus.
