WEDNESDAY’S TOPIC: Crime & Safety POLICE BEAT Man stabbed in fight 1A man was stabbed in the ab domen Friday just before 6:15 p.m. in Scobert Park and is cur rently listed in critical condition at Sacred Heart Medical Center. According to witnesses, two groups of people engaged in an argument and exchanged insults. One subject then picked up a tree branch and struck Robert Larry Reznak, 40, and William Monroe Lewis, 41, both on the head. A fight broke out between the two men and three juveniles, two males and one female, and Rez nak was stabbed. One of the males and the female juvenile have been questioned by police, but the third suspect has not been located. Police radio stolen 2A Eugene resident was charged with theft by extortion and burglary on April 30 at 11:58 a.m. According to police, the sus pect stole a police radio from an office in Autzen Stadium and be gan speaking into the radio on an emergency channel. Another res ident was charged with theft by extortion because of his partici pation in the incident. Police re ports stated that the suspects were making comments such as: "Hello, hello, there is a man run ning on the roof of Autzen. He told us there’s a bomb on the foot ball field. Get a million dollars. ” Sgt. Poppe, of the Eugene po lice department, alerted officers to the delinquent speaking on the police channel and they respond ed to Autzen to investigate. One of the individuals was ap proached because he was holding a cup full of rubber bands that was also believed to have been stolen from the office. After an in vestigation, the two admitted to the accusations and were charged. Two men steal beer 3 A University student was charged with second-degree theft and minor in possession at 3 a.m. on April 30 when he walked into the 7-11 on 1898 Franklin Blvd. and stole a four pack of beer. According to police reports, the suspect walked into the store and approached the front counter with a four-pack of Coors beer. When the clerk told him it was after the legal time to purchase alcohol, the suspect ran out the door and left the scene in a car that another person was dri ving. Officers located the car with the help of the clerk’s de scription. The owner of the vehi cle was approached by officers and after an investigation, they learned he was the driver and his friend was the one who stole the beer. They admitted to police that it was their intention to steal the beer before they entered the store. The driver was charged with third-degree theft and pos session of less than an ounce of marijuana after officers found marijuana and related parapher nalia at his residence. Faire-goer harassed 4During the ASUO Street Faire that took place on the closed portion of 13th Avenue last week, a transient was charged with ha rassment when, according to po lice reports, he pointed his video camera under the skirt of a woman walking down the street. Around 5:30 p.m. on May 2, the victim alerted OPS that she was being harassed by a man with a camera. When officers arrived, witnesses and the victim helped them locate the suspect who ad mitted that he had been pointing his camera under the victim’s dress. He told police that the recorder was not on, but he was using the camera to look through the view screen. The suspect was charged and released. Police find marijuana 5A 21-year-old transient was charged with possession of less than an ounce of marijuana at 4:51 p.m. on May 2 when he was approached by officers re garding a criminal mischief re port. It was unclear whether the suspect had any involvement in criminal mischief, but after a rou tine search officers found what they believed to be marijuana in his possession. He was charged, taken down for fingerprints and released. Officer cites for noise 6A University student was cit ed for prohibited noise on May 5 at 12:35 a.m. at 737 E. 16th Ave. when residents in his apart ment complex complained about continual noise disturbances coming from his apartment. Ac cording to reports, a Eugene po lice officer went to his room to investigate and could hear music coming from his room at high volumes. After knocking at the suspect’s door with no response, the officer entered the room and called out his presence. The sus pect was charged and released. Subway vandalized 7The Subway at 1304 Hilyard St. reported to police that on April 22 at approximately 3:30 a.m. an unknown individual vandalized their front glass door. The owner told police that the video camera in his store record ed the individual who rode up on his bike and scratch letters into the glass, but he didn’t rec ognize him. The tapes were turned over to police and an in vestigation is underway. Housing reports theft 8Several items were reported stolen from different Universi ty housing facilities recently. A vacuum cleaner and a dresser were stolen from the Walton complex sometime during Spring term. They were noticed missing on April 29. The total value of the items was approxi mately $439. A couch was also stolen from Spiller dorm some time between April 15 and 16. It was worth about $895, and no information about the suspect is known at this time. The Univer sity Inn also had a couch stolen from its first floor lounge be tween April 25 and 28. The couch is worth approximately $910 and no suspect information is known. Unlocked bike stolen 9A Diamond back bike was stolen between April 30 and May 1 from the area near Pizano’s pizza. The student told police she left it there unlocked and when she returned it was gone.
