It may be time to buy that shiny piece of metal or purchase some kind of sparkling little stone. Jewelry sales do well in the two weeks prior to Feb. 14, said Renee Ford, owner of Blue Moon Jewel ry Designs, which is located in the Valley River Center Mall. Valentine’s Day is why many jewelry stores, such as Don’s Jew elers and Harry Ritchie’s Jewel ers, are having sales and are ad vertising “huge” or “tremendous” savings. Don’s Jewelers in Valley River Center has a Valentine’s Day sale of 20% to 50% off all marked items. At Harry Ritchie’s Jewelers, lo cated at both Valley River Center and Gateway Mall, there is a spe cial one day restyling event Feb. 26 at which customers can design their own jewelry or have old pieces reset. The most popular Valentine’s jewelry includes earrings, neck laces and bracelets, but “anything that is red or heart-shaped [is popular],” Ford said. At Don’s Jewelers, “Black Hills gold and ruby gemstones are the best selling items,” said Pat Le long, the store manager. For about $100 to $200, you can go home with a nice gift. At Don’s Jewelers, a heart-shaped necklace with a choice of a gen uine ruby, sapphire or emerald and two diamonds is $99.89. At Harry Ritchie’s Jewelers, a 14 carat gold locket with a diamond is $99.99. A reversible pendant with 14 diamonds on one side and 14 rubies on the other is $199. If prices seem too steep, many of these stores have certain fi nancing plans that are aimed to help the financially struggling college student. If you’re looking for something really special and exotic, and if money is no object, then why not purchase Victoria’s Secret’s Mil lion Dollar Miracle Bra? The bra has “over 100 carats of real diamonds, and literally, hun dreds more in semiprecious stones,” according to the Victo ria’s Secret catalog. Anyone with a million dollars and an exquisite fashion sense can have the bra delivered to their home. However, no one has pur chased any of the three diamond studded bras that were made, said Monica Mytro, a customer service representative at Victo ria’s Secret. If these ideas are all out of your price range, but you still feel that jewelry is the symbol of love that you want to give, why not run down to your local supermarket and pick up a 25-cent ring or necklace? It’s really the thought that counts, right?
