Both technological and time constraints had prevented him from fully realizing the fan tasy he envisioned, so he resolved to renovate the film using modern technology for the movie’s 20th anniversary. Enhanced sound effects and digitally created beasts, droids and people in the city of Mos Eisley are the least of the changes made to the trilogy. Star Wars features a brand new scene in which Han Solo confronts Jabba the Hutt. This scene was originally shot in 1976 but wasn’t used because technology wasn’t advanced enough to complete it. It was recreated using only the track of Harrison Ford’s dialogue from the original shooting session. Also, Luke Skywalker's land speeder now actually floats into Mos Eisley; the vehicles wheels are now effectively hidden. Most of the changes in The Empire Strikes Back are touch ups to the film’s opening snow battle sequence, but Cloud City is also radically changed. The city’s matte painting background was replaced by a computer generated, three-dimensional image, and Lando Calrissian’s palace has new hallways and windows that give the scenes a more expansive feel. The pit above which the characters battle outside of Jabba’s palace now houses a more visible monster. And final ly, at the end of the movie, the defeat of the Emporer is cele brated not only on the moon of Endor, but on Tatooine, Cloud City and Coruscant, the Imperial headquarters planet. Lucas has been criticized for altering the trilogy; the changes have been called fake-looking and distracting. But the trilogy has yet to be examined by the true judges in the matter: the millions of Star Wars fans who will battle for tickets to watch Star Wars Special Edition on the silver screen this weekend. Years later, her husband Geraldo (Ryan Kivett) has been appointed by the new government to investigate civil rights abuses that occurred in the country in the past. The play takes place on a night when Ger aldo encounters car trouble and receives a ride home from a respected doctor, Roberto Miranda (Chandler Melvin). Paulina recog nizes the voice of Miranda as one of her unseen torturers from years before, and she keeps Miranda in her house in order to assist in her husband’s investigation. “The play is a comment on the emotional relationship of victims of any crimes to the perpetrators of those crimes,” Vanderpool said. “There is a high sense of emotional and psychological communication that reaches out of the world of the play to the spectator.” Death and the Maiden has won many awards since its premier, including an Olivi er award in 1991 for the best play in London. The play will continue Feb. 6-8 and Feb. 13-15. Each show will begin at 8 p.m. Tick ets are $3 for University students, $5 for senior citizens and University faculty and staff, and $6 for the general public.
