PFC supportive of student groups ■ buUbtl: some student organizations received more money than they requested By Dana Williams Multicultural Issues Reporter The ASUO Programs Finance Committee approved five budgets last night, increasing two, de creasing one and keeping one the same. American Institute of Architec ture Students (AIAS) asked for $755 — a $6 decrease from last year’s budget. The committee ap proved the proposed budget after a debate on whether to allocate more funds than AIAS requested. Although the group did not get an increase in their 1996-97 budget, the committee felt AIAS spent last year’s funds responsibly. The committee noted AIAS raised twice as much money in fund raising last year than it asked for from the ASUO. The committee awarded Dis ability Service Project (DSP) $400 more than they asked for. DSP re quested $10,100 for the individ ual services that they provide to University students with disabil ities. The committee’s decision for the increase to $10,500 reflects the state mandated increase in the minimum wage. The Constitutional Court re ceived $2,166 for its 1996-97 bud get, the group asked for $2,206. The increases will affect advertis ing and the directors’ stipend. The committee said an increase in funds was appropriate because the law requires that the Constitu tional Court advertise court rul ings to University students, and because students should have the opportunity to take part in their government. The director’s posi tion took a $105 loss last year and this year’s increase is an effort to create a standardization of stipend positions. The Committee for Musical Arts asked for $4,800 and re ceived $4,625. Their allocated funds were 3% more than last Spring Break Mazatlan from$530.00* *fare includes airfare and hotel. The program of fers students a chance to compose music and then have the profes sional artist perform students pieces. The group plans to use the extra funds to rent perfor mance space outside of the School of Music. Forensics, the University’s de bate group, received the same amount as their 1995-96 budget. The committee approved the group’s request for $14,850 for their 1996-97 budget. The group uses their money to send Univer sity students to national debates.
