Marijuana supporters ask Bay-Area police, “Got milk?” SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Po lice confiscated several pounds of brownies at the Castro Street Fair and planned to test the sweets to see if they were laced with mari juana. The seizure Sunday at a table set up by gay activists drew an an gry crowd that jeered at police. Onlookers chanted, “Shame! Shame!” as police made off with the haul. “If there is marijuana found in those brownies, well, marijuana is still illegal until we know other wise,” said Lt. Greg Suhr, who oversaw the bust. “If they contain marijuana they will be destroyed,” he said. No arrests were made. Suhr said if the brownies con tained no marijuana, they would be returned. I was hoping we could work something out.” Candidates to fight like cats and dogs WASHINGTON (AP) — A fourth debate in the presidential campaign holds all the trappings of a fur-flying confrontation. Television show host John McLaughlin said he’s tired of "wishy-washy” responses from presidential candidates. Instead, he said he plans to moderate a debate pitting Chelsea Clinton’s incumbent cat Socks against Bob Dole’s dog, Leader. At issue: Which would be the best first pet — a dog or a cat? The National Humane Society and the publisher of both Cats Magazine and Dog World will co sponsor the event, which is set for Oct. 17 in Washington, D.C. A team arguing for Leader’s side will be led by Dog World’s contributing editor John Cargill. Amy D. Shojai, President and founder of the Cat Writers’ Asso ciation and contributing editor of Cats'iffagazine, will lead the cat side. The Humane Society says both Socks and Leader will be asked for comments, which will be aired during the debate — if they are supplied and limited to the topic under discussion.
