Maybe those responsible saw the lac k of action as a green light for further opportunities to disturb students Why did Fruhnmayer (ail to include this episode tn his letter? I contest Fruhnmayer s remarks that the Office of Public Safety and University Housing are the two groups that will "taka action to make certain that racial incident* are dealt with swiftly and surely." It is important to recognize the uneasy feelings of the student who first reported the racist flyer* two months ago First, the OPS officer filing the report seemed to be culturally ignorant and insensitive to the student's concerns The student, badly shaken by the incident, reported to the officer that she Relieved the flyer had targeted her specifically She had been awav from her car for lesa than an hour, it was the only flyer left on any car in the vicinity and the only item inside on her dashboard was a kippah fthe head c overing Jews often wear) A few days later, in the police blotter in the COMMt NtARr EmwntM the report tni puhhthmi in full — right down to the details of the student's tn. the lime *nd piece the incident aoctinud and that tha *tu« •tent thought the "skullcap * on the dashboard may have tipped off the pamphleteer this was a nate < rime not a citation for a minor tn possession of alcohol! hs it it frightening lo report incident* like thme (especially tf you think you are target), aha believed her report waa given tn confidence What If the memory of a Neo Marl wa» tparked by this report? Positive steps are required immediately Along with the need for courageous and con strut live steps taken by the administration, stu •tents need to demonstrate their support ter those individuals and communities targeted by the authors of hate I encourage everyone to attend a rally urge nixed by Students Against Hate and Discrimina tion today at noon in front of Johnson Hall Together, we can establish a "sate and accepting place for all of our students, faculty and tuff “ Aevin Aaron is a co-coordinator at thr Survival Cantor and an undergraduate at the 1 /n/venUty L F T T f RS Dirty dancing I have to •duiii, I must have looked pretty funny There I was, * tend mg next to my locker in Esslmger. half dressed. danc ing around a cockroach the size of a rat. hollering.
