Championships in Palo Alto
The Oregon women’s tennis teem got its season
off to a rough start on Friday at the Koiex Regional
Championships in Palo Alto. The freshman dou
bles team of Alexandra Napier and Shanelle
Kaneshiro was the only Oregon representatives to
survive on Friday and continue to plav on Saturday
after four singles players and another doubles team
were eliminated from the tournament on Friday
Newcomers Napier and Kaneshiro defeated a
team troin cal t'oiy Nan Luts umspo n-4. 7-fi on
Friday to advance to the swuml round on Satur
day.
As the only Oregon team remaining, Napier and
Kamtshiro lost in straight sets B-2, 6-2 to Stanford’s
team.
Oregon team captain Kliso Adams and Carvn
Coyle each won their first matches but were elim
inated in the sis ond round on Friday
Napier and Allison Sosnow both were eliminat
ed in their first round singles matches Adams and
Sosnow paired up as a doubles team hut lost to
Fresno State's team t>-2. 3-6, 6-4
