LETTERS Lee understands I’m concerned about the Hyundai mit roprtx i>«sor chip plant proposed for Huitene Indeed, Hyundai relievt?* a short-term need for jobs and will help jump-start many sectors of our local economy But we can not continue to lure manufm - luring businesses that provide less than family-wage jobs Lugene, facing a ( ritu al juncture in its development, must attract research and development-1 vpe jobs. These jobs will allow peo ple to work with their minds, not just their hands Bobby Lee understands this perhaps better than anyone He knows that we cannot continue to build Our economy on this type of industry As a jinst stu dent body president and an experienced leader in publii policy, Bobbv will work for jobs that provide solid wages and opportunities for everyone This issue is complex; let's not kid ourselves There are no easy answers But Bobby late has a balanced approach to this challenge He has the enthusi asm and know-how to guide Kugene where it should he going: into a promising future in the 21 st century Paul Kalil Psychology Family values This (last week, which was to have been the inauguration of Dave Frohnmaver .is University president, has hern bittersweet.
