NEWS BRIEFING A LOOK AT THIS MORNING S HEADLINES Undergraduates at UW may see tuition rise under expansion plan NORTHWEST SEATTLE CAP) — Out-of-state underxniduate* at the University of VV a s h i n x t o n would see a sharp incrtia-ii* in tuition costs under a plan that includes a request for SlH million m state money The plan, to lie presented to state officials Monday, is aimed at expanding enrollment and the use of teehnolov v If the Legislature approves the request. President Richard McCormick said the university could accept the equivalent of 7H0 additional full-time students, add computers for students and raise salaries to keep top profes sors. In addition to the SlH million, the supplemental budget initia tive aims to raise $12 million through increased tuition, pri vate contributions and academ ic and administrative budget cuts. The university's proposed increase includes 700 more stu dents at the Seattle i ainpus, tit) more at the Tacoma branch and 20 more .it the Bothell branch Current total enrollment is the equivalent of about 11, too full time students Legislative leaders have urged the University of Washington to give priority to making higher education available to more stu dents State demographers sav that beginning next year, chil dren of baby boomers will start graduating from high school in record numbers.
