As sad as that may seem to some people, it is the truth 1 am no different Dn any given day 1 wake up to ESPN's SpurtM enter and fall asleep to CNN's late-night sports recap 1 am a sjiorts junky Now. in Eugene, my televi sion tunes into the three major and another four secondary net work stations, two Turner based channels, a handful of pay-movie stations, three news oriented channels. countless miscellaneous-garbage stations and the bizarre and useless Net work I. which comes in on channel 92 on mv TV set Uut that same television tunes into only one and a half sports channels — Prime Sports Keanej only counts as otlu half of a channel because half of its pro gramming is on ovnr, and over and over So it was only natu ral that I finally started a quo*! to get my cabin company to add the one sports outlet that I am missing in my lift? KSPN2. I have heard numerous stories about people (ailing their cable companies every day for unthinkable periods of time in an effort to make their favorite table stations made available, so ! figured it vv.is time that 1 started showing that kind of dedication to my cause. No big deal I wasn't calling to ywil fit anyone or to demand thiit the (able company «i*>« ide right there on the spot between adding KM’S.: or losing ray business — 1 knew very well that neither of those tin tics would come anywhere dose to accomplishing ray goal and 1 wasn't about to give up tnv i able I'V Hut I thought it was time thiit 1 exercised my right as a paying customer to get the programming that I wanted So I called up ray (able com pany. and after several failed attempts to reach a customer service representative. 1 got ray chara e to plead my case in favor of adding the second edi tion of the all-sports channel. But to no avail li seems that unless cable companies are run through fiber-optics — which many are not - they only have the capa bilities for a certain amount of cable stations That seems rea sonable Drop TNN, CSPAN or (JVC. and I am on my way to making a living out of watching sports on the couch. Hut things are not quite that simple. I don't know, maybe the i able comp.mil's limit, th.it thi< tree-hugging. environmentalist hippies of Oregon would rather watch weeds grow than another all-spurts i able station I like tree-,. I have nothing against the environment, but dammit. I want I Nl’Nj Or maybe cable companies truly believe Oregonians really, really value their all-t ountrv programming or their home shopping networks Hut dammit. 1 want KSPNji. I was told that to get tti> request addressed. 1 hail to send a petition to the cable company outlining bow I think my problem could be solved namely, which channel should be dropped so KSPNI4 can be added I guess that means 1 have to start an anti I NN or anti Lifetime campaign to have my meager request granted.
