Man I l'set! to Love" feels like one of those bass grooving jazz songs you'd hear in a smoky coffeehouse with the lights down really low "Yes to You (Tappan Zee)" has a slower swing-roc k pare but still has an up fool to it Werner's bac kground includ ed piano, which is also featured on this CD. “Signing Your Name" has Werner on piano and <K.( otnpanving musicians, such as on drums, keyboards and cello, According to a press release, it is a song about the djffic ult feel ings for a family member. The iyru s write picturesque images of the possible (read bet ween the-lines) a< lies and problems Mm li At All" is ,1 tune on whit li Werner plays only piano It has a light piano jazz sound like you'd hear in a bar-lounge (without the i heesy musician) And Werner’s voic e inflects at all the right times, to point out perfectly that the relationship is lost, in the song Werner s talents remain not only with the guitar and piano but also with tier vocals and lyric s (Werner w rote all of the IB s songs, except fur ''Some thing So Right "! Mi favorite songs on the CD include the three skills of mush lyrii s and vocals "Last of the Good Straight Girls" has a great guitar feel, acoustically and electrically, joining melodic accompaniment from the drums, bass and har monica Lyrically, it describes a girl in a situation of anger and who. in the end, develops a strong distrust toward strangers The listener can hear the emphatic emotion in Werner s voii e in all the words she sings The other song that combines the three skills well is “Some Other Town." It explains the many “fallen" neighborhoods and their inhabitants that a per son outside of this “other town" might see in cities everywhere. The music and vocals are very pretty They have a sad feeling to them, hut the listener realizes how sad this matter is. Here is an example: "They shoot their drugs’ they shoot their friends/ and who’s to blame/ it all depends/ my heart is left/ my head is right/ my uniform suburban white/ and I’ll lie driving home tonight/ over some other town/ around some other town/ right by some other town." Last of the Good Straight Girls is a great debut for Werner With a work this notable, she will have a promising future In the meantime, go out and grab Werner’s new release You can also chei k her out in concert at John Henry's at 7:30 p.tn on Saturday CATCH ON TO) EUGENE’S BEST PIZZA super STUDENT SPECIAL!
