■ LETTERS Incorrect We are responding to the commentary of Samuel (ex.hter. the president of Hiilel (ODE. Mav lr>) We found his state merits to be income t about the lei Hires of Imam Mohammed Al-Asi last year, inr hiding those portraying him to be a "bigot " If what you stated is correct, why did you not write about it last year' All he did was quote Guide Galabrese's statements about bigotrv. which may or may not apply to this situation It is very dangerous to take quotes out of context and apply them to a situation He provided tin evideni e in support of his claim about the speaker. On the i ontrary, (Al-Asi! pro vided a true insight into the ter rible situation of Palestinians in the occupied Palestine and information about why the peace pros.ess is stalled One main reason that the peace process is not moving forward is because of the domination of United States government by the Jewish lobby and the U S s blind go\ eminent.(I polo v toward Israel (the Jewish lobby is the largest PAG group in the U.S and when money is < hang ing h.auls, policy ( hnnges with it) lie just hurts his own cause by labeling people as "anti-Semit ic " We heard he was at the let ttire that Al-Asi presented Mav 1T>. All of Al-Asi's arguments were supported by facts We would like everyone to know that many other Jews were in the audience and could not say any thing to refute these far ts. In fact, many of the Jews there went to talk to Al-Asi after the presentation to tell him they appreciated the information giv on. So please do not accuse as being "anti-Semitic.” because many Muslims are also a Semite like you (Semitic people found ed the monotheistic religions of Judaism, Christianity and Islam) We are sick and tired of their kind of Attitude (sung pre sented) without onv supportive evidence. Accusations of being "anti-Semitic." and being put in on the defensive tie should learn os a student that he needs to make state ments hacked by supportive data Also, if he was so dis traught after the lecture las! year, whs didn't he write then, instead of one veer later' The Muslim Student Assoc ui tion has tried hard to bring knowledgeable sc holars to our campus who < an enlighten the audience and bring a different point of view l'his is exactly what is needed to enc mirage the diversity he kept touting in his artii le The- Jewish i oimminitv is well-represented on this c am pus. but the Muslims are still trying to develop a strong foun elation For him to put our speaker down the day of his vis it in the hope of invalidating him shows that he didn't wont people to go to his lecture We do not believe that he encour ages the diversity nr the cwlebra tion of cultures on this campus Abbos Seyedolali Reza Osqul Muslim Student Association Favorite Despite disagreeing with almost everything Hrian Worn ai k believes in, I have to admit that he's my favorite Emerald columnist He almost always displays the delicious (though si ary) irony of conservative log ic Brian's gift of irony is partic - ularly well-displayed in his col umn titled "Conservatism has different meanings" [OPE. May 16) Brian explains that conserva tives believe “government needs to get off the backs of Americ ans be they property owners, business owners or parents."
