No, not every man in the world is a rapist and I would even disagree to an extent with the "All men are potential rapists" statement Mow 1 choose to interpret this is that women need to bo aware of the possihil ity of being raped As we all know , thanks to the excellent rape awareness programs here, a rapist i an range from anv ran dom man on the street to a pre viously trusted friend to an authority figure This is the mes sage meant to he spread by "All men are potential rapists " Biased This letter is consuming the recent elet lions at the Universi ty My concern is that of fair and proper journalism. After exam ining what you published in your biased and non printwor thy editorial April 27, 1 felt something had to be said. f irst, 1 would like to discuss the bias and libelous acts against the hautrow itz/'Scott campaign by the Emerald As responsible and reputable news writers, you should take it upon yourself to follow appropriate journalist!! guidelines In your April 27 issue. you accuse Kantrowitz/Scott of "under handed campaign tru ks." when in fact their campaign slogan of "thank you for your support" was aimed at students and not at your "newspaper " If you would have questioned either Chris or Niki about tin* flyer, 1 am sure your words would not have rep resented a false and unprece dented view of these two out standing ex candidates At least one good thing came out of your poor journalism — your ex-readers will now turn to the Oregon Commentator. At least they admit that they are a "journal of opinion " If that doesn't say enough, let me put it this way. Your rag is losing pop ularity among the students. Upon the lately published arti cles (football scandals and the recent campaign), your newspa per is rated below losing to the Beavers. In the same editorial you also say that Kantrowitz/Scott "seem to he lacking" professionalism. No on« is accusing every man of raping; not every man would Vet when one out of 12 college men surveyed has admittedly done something that meets the legal definition of rape or attempted rape, the odds of every man being a rapist becomes frighteningly high. I would like to applaud Endi cott for his suggestion of creat ing an ASUO Men's Outer The reason women have support centers is because we actively sought out female companion ship, sisterhood and together ness. If any man honestly feels the need for organized male companionship, then be lias every right to form a men's group As long as the purpose is truly to create a safe environ ment to express men's com ern.s and compose a sense of brother hood and not to mock or get tiack" at women's groups, by all means, go ahead anti establish a group Women have fought to get our own studies curriculum because we have been estranged from "regular” courses; hence women's history as opposed to "regular" history, feminist phi losophy as opposed to "regular” philosophy.
