Rare no-hit game gives Ducks split Mark McTyre Origan ODfy fiwM Oregon club baseball'* start in« pitcher Oscar Sweeten accomplished the rare feat of hurling a complete game no-hit ter over the weekend in front of friends and family in his home town of Brookings as the Dm ks took on Humboldt State in a doubleheader. SWEETEN A 11 h o u g h S w « e t e n whs a far cry from pitch ing a perfect game, as he allowed sev en walks while hit ting one Humboldt State batter, he did record si* strikeouts m the Dm ks 3-t) triumph. Sweeten got all the run sup port he needed as Scott Moore scored on a Humboldt Stale error in the second inning and Garrick Dorn hit a two-run dou ble in the sixth. In the closing half of the- twin hill. the roof caved in for the Ducks when starting pitcher Mike Ross left the game after five innings with a 9-4 lead. Ore gon allowed 17 runs on six errors in the next two innings The highlight of the Humboldt State comehac k was a grand slam that kit ked off the scoring explosion. Humboldt State went on to a 21-U) vic tory over the Ducks. Oregon's Kuo Ramirez, Matt Johnson and Moore1 had two hits apiec e in the loss Ducks fall victim 14-9 The Oregon club baseball team had little time to rest on Monday us they returned to action against cross-town rival Lane Community College, com ing up short in a 14-9 dec ision. The Ducks started strong against the Titans, jumping out to a five-run lead in the top of the first inning. However, the Titans c ame to bat at the liottom of the inning and rallied for three runs of their own, The Titans posted five more runs in the second to take* a command ing 8 5 lead as they never looked hack. The Titans cruised to a 14-9 victory over the Ducks In the losing cause.
