The Oregon Daily Emerald Hoard al Director* named Uni vanity student David Thorn as the publication’s editor for the 199S-90 school year "We hired who we thought was the most qualified candi date,” said Richard Rofskv. i hairman of the board The hoard, which is comprised of community members, faculty, students and Emerald staff, made the announcement Tues day evening after interviewing the appleants "We were pleased with the quality and the experience of all the candidates this year,” he said. Thom said He also would like to increase communication between the Emerald and the professors at the School of Journalism and Communication. He hopes to get critiques from the professors that will improve the quality of the newspaper. "We have a great faculty that we've ignored more or less," he said. I mmtkt The put of money for student groups to purchase computers for their offices grew last night when the ASl.'O Student Senate agreed to match and possibly double the funds to putt base computers allocated by the University administration. The senate unanimously approved a motion to transfer $10,000 from surplus funds to a senate line-item at« mint to match money made available hv the University The senate also voted to put $10,000 more in the fund from a University over realized account, which includes interest from student fee accounts and revenue generated from over-realized enroll ment, or incidental fees that have already been laved Money front the over realized at count will he transferred {.wilding approval from the ASUO pres ident and the University administration The deadline is Friday for student groups to apply to the senate Computer Committee for a computer from this fund. In other business. The Student Insurgent will hav e to appeal its 1905-1)6 budget vet again after an appeal for more funding was denied by the student senate Tuesday night. Brady appealed to the Programs Finance Com mittee after the group's initial appearance in front of the committee in March, and made his first appeal to the senate Tuesday night. While Brady said the Insurgent was not seeking funding equal to that of the biweekly Commenta tor. he said that the amount allocated by the Pro grams Financ« Committee are not sufficient for the paper's publication, and the Insurgent will con tinue to seek more funding "We're activists " Brady said.
