■ LETTERS Ludicrous I am a candidate for Student Senate Seat <!. ASUO Program* Finance Committee Senator. I w ish to apoltigizit and to express to all voters the reason for which I did not appear at the senatorial debate on the evening of April 1 2 The topic of discussion was to be the problems women face on our campus. The reason for my absence ts because this sub let t is one in which I am not nearly as qualified to speak on as other candidates As much as i try. because I do not face these problems every day. I w-ill never fully under stand the oircumstani es in which women on this campus live For me to stand up and pre tend I can pinpoint the prob lems women face today w ould he ludicrous. Hot use I am not n woman, the best I could give on this issue would he an out side opinion based on problems seen only tit surface level. I i ’teve it would lx> wise and n • impar tial to hold deflates ot >ues not involving race, gender, m sexual orientation and choose a topic every candidate may speak evenly on. If we were presented with a problem in which every candidate faces, sui h as the ris ing costs of tuition or the gener al improvement of our Universi ty. this would give a level plat form to all candidates, so the voters could truly measure the merits of each individual candi date.
