April 13 Jack Orozco has offi i tally resigned from his position on the Inciden tal Fee Committee "I am resigning duo to that I Ft' is not concerned with negotiating with people of color, but rather with ignoring them and shutting them up." "I believe the IFC is fundamentally flawed, and the need for n restruc ture is overw helming There is so much fuc king hypocrisy " "And now that I ant gone. tall me uncommitted, say I had a conflict of interest, sav I violated your trust, iav 1 wasn't able to negotiate and 1 had a minority agenda," he wrote. ASIJO Financial Coordinator Francis Neo said. “All the more that he should have staved," Neo said in regards to Orozco's cultural perspective ami ability to influent e the < ommittee Orozco did not have such kind words in regard to some of his IFC colleagues and their actions on the IFC committee this year Orozco wrote, “In many ways IFC's over $4.8 million is nothing more than a campaign fund for committee members to w in over University admin istrators, program directors and student leaders, if they allocate to the right causes " Some current IK' committee members are either running or being considered for ASIJO leadership positions next year "Committee members can go on i ampaigning; I am tired of the bullshit." Orozco wrote Orozco did not have a press < onferom e annoum ing his resignation and when contm ted he dei lined comment. Many members of the IFC said they were sur prised about the resignation. 1 believe the IFC is fundamentally flawed, and the need for a restructure Is overwhelming.1 Jack Orozco newly resigned IFC member "1 had absolutely no idea that he was planning to do this,” IFC member Caitlin Twain said As of Wednesday. Twain did not even know about Oroz co's April 1 official letter of resignation. Orozco failed to attend am of the IFC meetings during Spring term. "It's frustrating; it’s a loss to the members." IFC Chairman Jian Liu said. "We will lose a member with his exponent e anti a viewpoint that is gen erally not a dominate culture viewpoint " Liu has yet to he in contact with Orozco. "To my knowledge, none of us really got a chant n to talk to him." IFC member Samir Kumar said. "I haven't had a good chance to talk to Jack about it. " IFC member Shannon Wall echoed. "I value Jack so highly on this committee: I was really sail," Wall said. "I felt like lack was a very valuable member of this committee." "We're losing a voice. We were seven members strong Now we re six. Jack had some very power ful insights," Wall said. Twain agreed that the committee is better served when there are no empty seats. "It becomes unfair to the students when there is not enough repre sentation and perspective on the committee," she said ASIJO President Frit Bowen said it was unlike tv that he will appoint anyone to replace Orozco so late in the budget season. "I think it's very unfortunate," Bowen said, in regards to Orozco's resignation. "I think he added to the c ommittee." Twain said that Orozco's voice served to repre sent cultural issues on the committee. “He cer tainly had his constituents in mind," Twain said "I think that they will miss him." r Emerald f Pass it on.
