Europe, the team started to get
a grasp of Green's game plan,

also because it made Oregon's
offense easier to exei ute
"One thing we found last
season is that n lot of teams
would change their defense
depending on whether Orlando
was in the game or not,'' he
said. "Teams like to play zone
against us Hut when Orlando's
in. teams have to play man
defense because of his outside
shooting ability."
The Ducks still only won 10
games, but there was at least
some hope on the horizon
GREENBALL
Following Inst season. Green
and his coaches recruited heav
ily and brought in seven new
players, including two players.
Darryl Parker and Jamar Curry,
that play Williams' position. If
it were the same team as last
season (minus Stoudamire and
Andre Collier, who graduated),
Williams would no doubt In*
the main man.
But Green and Williams are
both impressed with the new
players, and there are still
questions looming in both their
minds about where Williams
will fit in.
"Orlando's going to Im chal
lenged at his position," Green
said, ''We've got five players
1 Williams. Parker, (.urrv. lords
Lyden and Jon Mite hell) at the
off-guard position
Williams, however, does not
seem all that worried about his
place on the team.
"All 1 know is what I've
read," Williams said. "I know
the coaches are expecting me to
come back and be a main con
tributor. and that’s what I'm
hoping to do."
And as far ns Ixung the main
man in the offense, after lieing
the man in the shadows for the
three years at Oregon, Williams
said it's not that important to
him.
"Being the No. 1 guy doesn't
really matter in this system.”
Williams said. "I wouldn't
mind being the lending scorer
or team captain or even MVP.
but it's such a team concept.
That stuff isn’t as important."
The Ducks are picked by
most publications to finish
ninth or 10th in the conference,
but Williams hopes to make
them eat their words.
"There are going to he a lot
of upsets." he said. "I'll be
happy if we finish in fifth or
sixth, but the main thing I want
to do is beat Arizona and
UCLA."
