Three suspended;
Oreaon loses 99-68

Throe men's basketball team
members were suspended prior
to Oregon's game with Arizona
Saturday. The Ducks suited up
seven players (and a team man
ager) and lost 99-68 to the fourth
ranked Wildcats.

curfew after the Ducks’ game
Thursday night against Arizona
State.
"The three are currently on
one-game suspensions." Oregon
coach Jerry Green said. "Their
status will be determined before
our next basketball game."
The Ducks next ploy Saturday
against Oregon State at McArthur
Court.
Arizona probably could have
beaten Oregon by 70 points, but
head coach Lute Olson used the
game as a chance to give his
younger players a chance to play
"It was obvious today that we
had tixj much talent." Olson said.
"It was great to get a chance to
have extended time for the fresh
men.”
Oregon had a few brief minutes
of excitement when Orlando
Williams hit three three-pointers
in four minutes to cut Arizona's
lead to 1612. but the Wildcats
took over the game from there,
outscoring the Ducks 40-15 the
rest of the half to take a 56-27 lend
by halftime,
Green applauded Olson forgiv
ing his team a break.
"He plqved hj_s starters a lim
ited amount of time,” he said,
"because our players did get
tired,”
Given also said he sticks by his
decision to tend the three play
ers home.
"There are no regrets . of the
other three getting sent lwi< k," he
said.
Williams led all Duck scorers
with 2.1 points and Antoine
Stoudamire had 19. Arizona's
Chris Mills had 23 points in 19
minutes.
Oregon is now 2-1.1 in the
Pacific-10 Conference Arizona
remains undefeated in the Pa< •
10.
The Ducks have three home
games remaining on the sched
ule: Saturday against the Beavers
and the following week against
California and Stanford.

Sophomore Karen Healea
scored a career-high 21
points to lead the Oregon
women's basketball team to
a 77-63 win over Arizona in
its final homo game Saturday
at McArthur Court.

when the Ducks pulled away
from the Wildcats. Oregon's
win. coupled with Washing
ton State's loss, put the
Ducks and Cougars in a tie
for ninth place in the Pacif
ic-10 Conference.
Oregon (0-15, 3-12) led 31
29 at halftime Iwfore going on
an 11-2 run at the start of the
second half. Arizona came
back with a 10-2 run in the
second half, but the Ducks
responded with another 11-2
run to keep Arizona at a dis
tance.
