University Mousing has received anonymous informa
tion alleging a dormitory resident raped another resident
in Cloran Mall Saturday. |an :ti>. n University housing
official said Monday
The unofficial information indicates both the victim
and the alleged rapist an* residents of Cloran Mall, which
is part of the Hamilton Complex, said University Mous
ing Direr tor Mike Eyster. The alleged ra|H> occurred in
the lobby of the residence hall, he said
The anonymous tip did not include the names of
either the v ictim or the alleged rapist, nor did it say how
well they know each other, Eyster said
As of Monday, no official report had been filed with
the Eugene police department or the f hiiveraity < )fh< e of
Public Safety regarding the alleged incident. However.

Speakers at the Eugene City Council’s Monday night meeting
debated the Eugene Human Rights Commission's proposer! homeless
camp near the northeast corner of Alton Baker Park.
Those against the proposal said they were trouhled by the site
selection process and the possible danger to schoolchildren visiting
the Willamette Science and Technology Center and the nearby plan
etarium
"We believe that the public process used to recommend the WIS
TEC parking lot is flawed." said Jeff Foreman, representing the Lane
Education Service District, which operates the planetarium.
“We wore not contacted about the impact the proposed camp
might have on our operations," he said.
Foreman also said those concerned about locating the camp near
residential areas, the Casanova Center or river trails should have
applied the same standards to the children visiting W1STEC.
"A school setting like the planetarium is not the appropriate set
ting for a homeless car camp," Foreman said.
Councilor Paul Nicholson said he did not consider the proposed
car camp site part of the WISTEC parking lot. and that the WISTEC

PEG JOHN RESIGNS
SALEM (AP) - Peg jolin announced her resignation from the Oregon
Senate on Monday in the wake of increasing pressure to quit because of
her felony election law conviction.
Her resignation takes effect March 8.
'It is with deep regret that I must take this step, but I do so for the good
of the state and out of deep respect for the process' the Cottage Grove
Democrat said in a letter to Secretary of State Phil Keisling.
Jolin. who was absent from the Capitol on Monday, was convicted last
fall of eight felony accounts and seven misdemeanor counts in connection
with a fraudulent campaign fund raising letter.

ALABASTER, Al*. (AP) - Miami Dolphins running bark
Bobby Humphry, arrested last week in Georgia on a cocaine
possession charge, was shot just above the knee Monday
during an apparent argument in his car
Alabaster police said Mark Pettles, a former teammate of
Humphry, was released after Humphry declined to press
charges in the shooting. Petties said he acted in selfdefense.
Humphry, who played for Alabama from l'WS-lWt. was
arrested last month on charges of cocaine possession, aggra
vated assault and destruction of hotel property He was also
charged with giving police a false name
