Oregon swimmers take part in PLU Invitational

Oregon's Club Sports swim
ming teams hope to parluv their
success in a meet last month
into greater success for the rest
of the season.
Both the men and women's
teams competed at the Pacific
Lutheran University Invitation
al last Dec. 8-9 In Tacoma.

The men ' s Ieani placed
fourth out of 10 teams at the
meet and wore led by Katsuva
Kobeyashi. Kobayashi. a Japa
nose exchange student, won
two races, finished second in
another and contributed in sev
eral relay events
He won the 1(H) and 200-me
ter Ink kstrok.es. setting a meet
record in the 100. and placed
second in the 200-meter indi
vidual medley
Other swimmers who scored
points included David Hill,
who garnered second, third
and fourth-place finishes in
freestyle events, and Tim
Waud. who earned a fifth and
sixth-place finish in the 4(H)
and 200-meter individual med
ley races, respectively.
Although the men fared a lit
tle better in Tacoma then the
women. Waud. the coordinator
for both teams, stressed that

fully this term we'll get some
more people practicing and
into competitive shape."
The women's team placed
sixth out of eight teams in the
Pl.t' meet, thanks in part to the
leadership of Kara Hafner.
Hefner's sixth place finish in
the 100-meter breast stroke was
the squad's only individual top
six finish during the meet.
"I thought the women’s team
did well considering that the
majority of other schools allo
cate a lot more money for wom
en's swimming," Waud said.
"Considering the circum
stances they face, they did a
good job."
