Council to hear proposals

The Eugene City Council will
hear information concerning a
development proposal calling
for the construction of a large
office building in downtown
Eugene today at 11:30 a.in. in
the McNutt Room, Eugene Citv
Hall.
A Seattle firm. Lorig and As
sociates. submitted a proposal
on Jan. 3 to build an 80.000- to
100.000-square foot office
structure on the corner of
Eighth Avenue and Willamette
Street.
Lorig has also indicated to
the city that it would lie willing
to build on the corner of Eighth
and Olive, depending on the
type of parking structure the
city would be able to finance
and construct.
According to an agenda is
sued by City Council, two op
tions for the parking structure
and office building are being
considered. In one, the build
ing would be constructed on on
Willamette Street with a three
story parking structure on the
remaining portion of the devel
opment site.
The other option calls for
construction of the building on
the corner of Eighth and Olive,
with parking underground,
leaving the rest of the site open
for other development by the
city.
Both options require the city
to fund and construct parking
facilities.
According to the council
agenda, city staff is currently
evaluating the feasibility and
potential costs of both options.

Hunger task force to report findings
A slate task force will report the findings
of an 18-month study of problems of hunger in
Oregon at .) p m. today at the I'lKlI) for Uine
County warehouse in Kugene
The IOH‘i Oregon legislature instructed
the task force to investigate the problems of
hunger across the state, assess existing hunger
relief programs and develop recommendations
for the Legislature on how to decrease the
threat of hunger in Oregon
The task force held four public hearings
throughout (he slate, including one in .Spring

was presented by representatives of many of

well as recipients and program volunteers
Currently, most hunger relief efforts origi
nate either from the private non-profit sector
or from the federal government through such
