The Flying Karamazov Brothers, also known as the Flying K's, are an international jug gling troupe. Page 10 George Carlin to laugh it up at Hult tonight By Layne Lakefish Emerald Entertainment Editor Stress has prevailed this week. From out-the-door book store lines to long reading lists to the not-ready-for-school-to slart blues, the first week of school has left its mark — but it's over now. The thing to do tonight is celebrate making it through the week. A little comedy, or actually a lot of comedy, might do the trick. A celebrity on stage at the Hult Center might do the trick. Put them both together and you have George Carlin. Better yet. Eugene has Carlin, tonight at B p.m. in the Mult's Silver Con cert Hall. One Eugene Center. As a teen-ager. Carlin had al ready laid out his life plans. He wanted to be a disc jockey, a standup comedian and a comic film actor. In that order. Now as a man of 53. he has accom plished it all. At 19, while serving in the United States Air Force, he be gan his stint in the radio busi ness At 23. he quit radio, teamed with funny-man Juck Burns and hit the nightclub scene, in 1905. after five years of doing comedy in nightclubs, he started getting extensive tel evision exposure and two years later he made the switch to act ing. Since then he has racked up quite a resume including 14 al bums. six HBO specials and a number of films including Out rageous Fortune. Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure as well as the soon-to-be-released Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure. Part Two and the television movie Justin Case. He is also currently in the process of starting his own situ ation comedy show for CBS and Lorimar Television In recognition of ail Carlin has accomplished, he was awarded a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame in 1987. “I like it because it's tangible recogni tion.” he said in a press re lease. In the true spirit of a co median. he added. ”1 only hope no one throws up on it." And so the story goes. At 19. he wanted to go through the three phases and end with comic films. "Like a million other kids, I sat in mov ie theaters and saw myself on tiie screen." (j»rlin said "In my case it was Danny Kaye, Red Skelton. The Marx Broth ers. and half a dozen other movie comedians who provid ed the inspiration." Now. however, he has decid ed to continue doing standup shows along with acting. So. along with a busy, never ending acting career, Carlin manages to perform over 100 shows a vear. His show is expected to run for 2-2Vj hours with Dennis Blair opening Blair, described as a screenwriter, songwriter, musician, singer and comic ac tor, has toured with the likes of Gladys Knight and Miami Sound Machine.
