By Bill Taylor

Fundraising trends now seem to lean
toward the innovative and original and
stress challenging and exciting con
tests
This change from the typical hake
sale fundraiser is exemplified by the
activities hosted by members of the
Greek system
During this year's Greek Days of Giv
ing. the Interfraternity and Panhelienic
councils raised more than Sfl(M) for the
Young Men’s Christian Association
through their parent education pre
gram The “Making Parenting A Pleas
ure" program included a five-kilome
ter fun run. comedy night and T-shirt
sales.
In addition, the Sigma Nu fraternity
and Delta Delta Delta sorority spon
sored a 24-hour Teeter-Totter-Thon. an
event in which hou^ members man
aged to raise $500 by soliciting pledges
and selling T-shirts The money raised
was donated to help huge tie's home
loss children.
"It's high-profile and fun for tho
people involved." said Carson Howler.
1C president and member of Sigma Nu.
The more than $5(H) raised by the Al
pha Phi sorority's annual dance, co
sponsored by the Oregon West Fitness
center for NlKK's Heart Aerobalhon
was donated to the American Heart As
sociation.
Outside of the social service activi
ties provided by the Greek system, res
idents of the University Inn and dorms
have in the past sponsored gambling
nights
The DeBusk dormitory last year hold
a "Gold Nugget Saloon" white the l’l
and Patterson Towers sponsored "Ca
sino and Games" night, which includ
ed a variety of card games such as pok
er and blackjack and dice games
The III also managed to raise money
by holding a Celebrity Auction, in
which they raised more than $500 for
Camp You (’.an Do. a camp for disabled
children. Items donated to bo sold in
cluded a workout shirt from San Fran
