Campus fundraisers use innovative means By Bill Taylor Emerald Contributor Fundraising trends now seem to lean toward the innovative and original and stress challenging and exciting con tests This change from the typical hake sale fundraiser is exemplified by the activities hosted by members of the Greek system During this year's Greek Days of Giv ing. the Interfraternity and Panhelienic councils raised more than Sfl(M) for the Young Men’s Christian Association through their parent education pre gram The “Making Parenting A Pleas ure" program included a five-kilome ter fun run. comedy night and T-shirt sales. In addition, the Sigma Nu fraternity and Delta Delta Delta sorority spon sored a 24-hour Teeter-Totter-Thon. an event in which hou^ members man aged to raise $500 by soliciting pledges and selling T-shirts The money raised was donated to help huge tie's home loss children. The more than $5(H) raised by the Al pha Phi sorority's annual dance, co sponsored by the Oregon West Fitness center for NlKK's Heart Aerobalhon was donated to the American Heart As sociation. Outside of the social service activi ties provided by the Greek system, res idents of the University Inn and dorms have in the past sponsored gambling nights The DeBusk dormitory last year hold a "Gold Nugget Saloon" white the l’l and Patterson Towers sponsored "Ca sino and Games" night, which includ ed a variety of card games such as pok er and blackjack and dice games The III also managed to raise money by holding a Celebrity Auction, in which they raised more than $500 for Camp You (’.an Do. a camp for disabled children.
