Mary DeMocker
Mary DeMocker began play
ing the classical harp at age
nine and the folk harp at age
22
She has performed street
music with both types of
harps, and has participated in
the Village Voice Street Musi
cian's Fair in New York City
In the spring of 1988. De
Mocker won a Ruth Lorraine
Close Harp scholarship for
study at the University of Ore
gon with Sally Maxwell. That
spring she was also a recipi
ent of the New York State
Council on the Arts LIFT grant
tor a series of concerts in
nursing homes In the future.
DeMocker plans to explore
the realm of electro acoustic
harp music with multi media
performance, using contem
porary as well as original com
position

Carawan has been perform
ing on the hammered dulci
mer since the age of nine At
age 14 he toured Germany
witn his parents, Guy and
Candie Carawan Evan s mas
tery ot the guitar can be heard
on the recordings Guy and
Evan Carawan," Music for
the Hammered Dulcimer," and
on Building the Perfect
Clock," which is Carawan's
own cassette tape Carawan
also sings traditional songs of
America and the British Isles

time when many of the students of the University of Oregon
think about their housing needs
