The branches of student goven ment — Student Senate, In While you were away Student Government The ASUO has been occupied mostly with bureaucratic mat ters for the last two weeks, ac cording to ASUO Vice President Steve Hoyt. "We’ve been getting the staff assimilated in the office and looking at the files," said Hoyt. With finals week and the short summer bruak preoccupy ing the time of most students, not much has been happening in student govenment circles recently. Hoyt and ASUO President Karen Oaffney have been work ing with various student unions to continue pursuing the Monotte-Butler affirmative ac tion grievance against the University School of Law. The grievance reached the desk of State Hoard of Higher Education Chancellor William E. “Hud" Davis last week, who denied the appeal of Monette and Butler. Davis ruled that Universtity law students Richard Monette and David Butler did not have standing to file the affirmative action suit. Hoyt said he was disap pointed with the decision of the appeal, saying that Attorney General Dave Frohnmayer had earlier opined that Monette and Butler did have standing. Gaffney has been working on reaching a new agreement with Prudential Insurance over points and loopholes with the current ASIJO health insurance plan, including a spousal equivalency coverage. Etal.
