Sports I Duck harriers favored at meet Men's team runs for top conference title. By Kevin Allen Emerald Contributer The University’s men's cross country team heads south to Palo Alto, Calif., in the hopes of winning the Pacific-10 Con ference title today. The Ducks, who are 4-0 in the Pac-10 and 6-0 overall, will run at the Pac-10 Championship hosted by Stanford at 10 a m. Oregon, ranked ninth na tionally, is the top ranked team in the conference, followed by Arizona, ranked 11th national ly. This will be only the third time the Ducks have had to run seriously, and it will be their first chance to face the six Pac-10 schools from Arizona and California. Arizona is defending Pac-10 champion. Oregon was runner up at 1080 meet. In their five Pac-10 victories, only Washington State has challenged the Ducks, which ended in Cougars defeat, 23-38. Oregon Coach Bill Dellinger said after the race with Washington State that the Ducks have shown their strength to the conference teams in the Pacific Northwest. However, it remains to be seen how they can run against teams from the southern half of the conference. ‘We have to look at. . Arizona. They have to be the favorite from the south while we'll be the favorite from the north," Dellinger said Oregon athletes expected to run include Chad Bennion, Brad Hudson. Steve Richards, Buck Jones, Seth Simonds, Chuck Lewis and Mark Dunbar. Bennion and Hudson have lead the Ducks all season as number one and two runners in all of Oregon's meets. In Oregon's last meet against Oregon State and Washington State.
