Study Continued from Page 23A And if your alone, there is always something more impor tant to be done. Writing a letter to your Danish penpal or sharpening all the kitchen knifes suddenly become priori ty matters whan faced with an eight-page paper on Hegel’s dialectical view of history If you ever want to get anything done, get out of your home and go someplace where fewer distractions occur The Beanery coffeehouse at 790 E. 14th Ave. Possibly the hippest place near campus to study, the Beanery provides a backdrop of black coffee, cigarette smoke, and a steady hum of conversa tion and music to work by. At first glance, the dimly lit. often noisy coffeehouse would seem the worst place to attempt to concentrate on homework. But many a term paper has been successfully written here, in spired by three espressos and the funky atmosphere. In addition to assorted beverages, the Beanery offers a full breakfast menu as well as soups and pastries. Studiers are welcome as long as they don’t monopolize tables during meal hours. So put on your black beret and turtle neck and check it out. University Library Patrons of this popular study hall will be shocked this fall to find most of the study tables on the second and third floors replaced by new bookshelves. Plenty of study areas remain on the first floor, though. The library is well lit and quiet, and provides easy access to research materials, making it a good study spot during midterms and finals. But some frequent the library for less academic reasons — the upper floors have gained a reputation as a prime pickup spot, ideal for silent flirtation. Still others shy away from the library. The harsh florescent light and uniform rows of tables and books can make it seem too sterile and uncomfortable, like a giant hostipital — or morgue. Library lounge in the base ment of Main Library As the name implies, this place is more relaxed than its relative upstairs. Hem you can eat. smoke and talk without fear of being slapped on the hand by some yardstick toting librarian. A good place to go when you get tired of the Main Library. Munchies are provided by ven ding machines. AAA Library in Lawerence Hall A little known . but quiet and cozy study hole. Long wooden tables accommodate a wide variety of students, from well dressed sorority women to high fashion architecture students There is good lighting, but food or smoking is not allowed. Get a seat on the upstairs loft for max imum atmosphere. The Fishbowl in the EMU All around, one of the best places to study on campus. The name is derived from the aquarium-like glass enclosure around the architectural marvel. The windows allow natural light in while letting the "fish" see out. Although it is also popular place for socializing, the con versaton level is usually tolerable. Best of all. the Fishbowl is adjacent to the EMU Deli, which provides an ex cellent selection of food and drink. Its central location makes the Fishbowl perfect for studying between classes It is a popular THE WESLEY FOUNDATION ' THE UNITED METHODIST CAMPUS MINISTRY AT THE UNIVERSITY OF OREGON WELCOMES YOU! Taylor lounge on main floor of the EMU The Taylor Lounge is pro bably the closest thing to your parents living room on campus Upholstered chairs and couches are spread throughout the room large windows look out on the center of the EMU, and there is even a stone fireplace on one side. The lounge is always quiet, except for the snoring of study animals sleeping through their midterms after cramming all night But be warned, the couches are extremely comfor table It might be a good idea to bring an alarm clock. Your Spot, anywhere Almost always the best place to study is that out-of-the-way place you find yourself It could be on the grass under an oak tree, at a desk outside your 2:30 class, or inside your favorite cafe. There are thousands of nooks and burrows around the campus waiting to be discovered or rediscovered. STUDENT HEALTH CENTER HOURS: By Appointment. Mon-Fri 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Urgent Care.
