The organization. Restore In tegrity to National Government (KING), held its first meeting in late |une to inform I .ane County citizens of House Resolution lit, introduced by Rep Henry B. Gonzalez. D-Texas. The Texas congressman is the lone sponsor of the resolution, which favors “impeaching Ronald VV Reagan. President of the United States, of high crimes and misdemeanors," ai cording to the March 5, I‘tH7 Congresional Record. The resolution was referred to the House Judiciary Committee where it has lawn held without action KING representative Ralph Penunuri expressed his concern about an administration that has “openly defied Congress, the Constitution and interna tional law” in a press con ference held July 9 at Kugene Ci ty Hall "The Reagan administration has become the very kind of government our Constitution was made to protect us from,” Penunuri said. An information campaign consisting of meetings, fliers and "Impeach Reagan" bumper stickers comprise KING'S strategy to persuade consti tuents to urge Oregon legislators in Washington to in itiate and support the impeach ment process. Council to throw annual tiesta By Sean Nelson (M I hr tmrrald The Council for Human Rights in latin America will Iw attempting to raise money for the transport of humanitarian aid to Nicaragua when it hosts its annual Nicaragua Friendship Day fiesta |uly 16 at 5 pm in the lamb Cottage at Skinner Uutte Park. The council hopes to raise $5,000 from the event, said joint project coordinator Robert Guit teau. "last year’s festival let us ship $75,000 worth of medical supplies," Guitteau said. "Because of U S. trade em bargoes. there is a premium on shipping costs to Nicaragua," Guitteau said. "Without the fiesta's financial support. those supplies would not have reached women or children’s hospitals throughout Nicaragua." U.S. embargoes, the Contra war. and a serious drought have increased hard ships in Nicaragua, he added. The council is researching the possibility of sending a barge of Pacific Northwest wheat to Nicaragua, according to Guit teau. “We would like to send 20,(MM) tons (of wheat). We’re not sure that's what we'll be able to do," he said. Non-perishable goods such as powdered milk and nuts will also be sent if sufficient funds am raised. Guitteau said. "it would take $3.(MM) just to send medical supplies," Guit teau said.
