Organization As organizers of the Norwegian Constitution Day celebrations May 17. we would like to respond to John Tapogna's letter (ODE, May 28). When we planned the celebration there was nothing we rather wanted than to have students from other countries to come and celebrate and ex perience our constitution day with us. We set the arrangement up as a whole day packet that includ ed a champagne brunch, a tradi tional parade, barbeque in Alton Baker Park with food and beverages, and a party later that night at Guido’s. The break even price for this was about $12.00, and the Norwegians paid $15.00. However, as we wanted as many non-Norwegians us possi ble to come and celebrate with us, we set a lower price of $7.50 for non-Norwegian participants. We tried to get as many peo ple to join us in our celebration through articles and ads in the Register-Guard and the Emerald and various posters around campus. Never was there any intent from our side to ' economically segregate” or "culturally diver sify” the campus. Nothing could be farther away from the goals we set for this celebration. We would like to use this op portunity to thank Sgt. Mason at the Eugene Police l)ept, laine (bounty Parks services and the University School of Music for helping us make the ar rangements possible. And we hope that we get the chance to celebrate our constitution day next year as it still means a great deal to us. Kari Brekke Jon (iroholdt Per-Ola Simensen Ure S. Dalen Bjorn Wille Organizer Bad criticism What is the problem with some people? Why do so many non-Greeks wish to criticize Greeks and their activities? In a letter by John Sheley (ODE. June 3) he shows he is a true bigot. Sheley says that since Greeks are so willing to give charity, they should be part of AIDS research instead of laboratory animals. I am not a member of a frater nity, nor do I plan to become one. Hut 1 cannot see what pushed Sheley to write such a disturbing and sadistic letter. If the Greek system wishes to hold activities and give the pro ceeds to charity, then that is their business. I am sum this money is put to good use by these charities and is gladly appreciated. I wish Mr. Sheley. along with all other bigots, would at least give their reasoning for their hatred If they have no real reason then they should mind their own business. John Nouguier Undeclared Playground fun Once again I am writing about a matter of incredible urgeore that the student body seems to be unaware of. How often have us off campus commuters found ourselves forced to arrange a meeting with a friend, teacher, TA, GTK. SOS. AM. PM. MP or other here on campus? Often is the answer. And where do we usually decide to meet? The EMU is where. Now. I like the EMU. It’s an adequate place. It's there, and it serves it’s purpose But. hey. let's face it. if we all use it. it's going to get worn out. !■ 24” X 36” COPIES RESUMES Give your resum# • profession*! look by having ll typeset at the Oregon Daily Emerald's Utter Perfect Or»phic$ located in Suite 300 EMU or call 6865611 Imagine how much it would cost to fix a place like that Also, it's usually crowded (sometimes with high school punks) and filled with noise. Have no fear though. I have once again brainstormed this problem and come up with a solution. A student playground. I say that we build a large stu dent playground (either behind MacCourt or between Oregon Hall and Science 11). Right now the school has two small playgrounds, but students are not allowed to use them I say that this student playground be about the same area as the Student Health Center and con tain some serious swings and slides. I want a playground that we could all write home about. It would la) cheap to maintain and give us something to do when we are bored. We could even have a yearly Olympics type competition there. Think about it. Gerard Marry Eugene Different BS John She ley, your letter does a great injustice to all Creeks everywhere, but especially to my fraternity. As president of Meta Sigma. I can vouch for the total benevolent conduct of all our members. We do none of the horrid things you mentioned. No charity fund-raisers are spon sored by us, and we did not filght at the “smoker” — fighting weaponless is against our creed. Our legs are too hairy for Miss Greek nominations. You can't see wet T-shirts through our leather jackets and anyone in our frat caught riding a scooter is expelled and/or shot. So what do we do? Well, we ride our Harleys up and down the stairs, clean our Beret to*, smoke opium, and generally bum out in a peaceful, satan fearing manner. You see. we at BS are different from other Greeks.
