As a member of the Board I will try to reflect the
students’ needs so that the U of O Bookstore can
more accurately meet those needs Among my
priorities are the maintenance of the 11 % student
discount on books and the improvement of the
current buy and sell policy for used books I will
also propose a more varied and creative selection
of magazines and periodical literature I also feel
that the U of O Bookstore could be more accessi
ble for physically impaired people
NEILL PLANT
Hello! I'm Neill Plant and I m running tor the
Freshman seat of the University Bookstore Board
of Directors
Over the past two weeks I have been talking to
some of you and seeing just what you think about
our Bookstore I have heard good and bad com
ments on its operation and structure
The Bookstore here is one of the best in the na
tion all around I do not propose any major sweep
ing changes that would upset the Bookstore's
smooth operation, but rather to continue the long
history of success and service to you the
customer
I believe that I am better qualified and more ex
perienced than the other candidates based on
these four facts
1) On Alaska stale wide governance boards for
VICA and ASAG
2) More than 4 years of dedicated and responsi
bie service to peers in elected office in 6
separate organizations
3) Voted Most Outstanding Senior for academic
excellence and service to school and community
as voted by teachers and administration
4) Full time employee for U S Senator Ted
Stevens during Summer 86

BRIAN SNOWDEN
I seek a position on the Bookstore Board ol
Directors to help continue and to improve the path
that it has taken As ol now the students ot the
University (the Bookstore members) receive a
good sired discount on books, but it's not enough
What we need is a higher resale value on our
books I'm tired ot getting *6 00 on resale ol a
(30 00 test book that t looked at tour times during
the term
The Board is a position which I teel I can work
well on through my being very conscious ot what
goes on around me. and by directing mysetl
toward the Bookstore I will hopefully be able to
see the needs ot the maiority ot the members and
respond to their needs
So when making the decision tor the Board,
make (he choice that is right lor you Brian
Snowden, Bookstore Board two year Sophomore
seat

SANE Nuclear Policy
-co chair ol SCO. Student Campaign lor
Disarmament
treasurer, tall term. Janet Smith Cooperative
Through these positions, as well as through
volunteer work lor several other organizations. I

HEATHER COPELAND
My name is Heather Copeland I am running lor
a position on the University's Bookstore Board to
ensure the U of O Bookstore continues to repre
sent the campus community Many students teel
cheated when they purchase their books, but this
is because ol a lack of understanding concerning
the Bookstore's nonprofit status and current 11 *.
book discount With improper management,
however, the Bookstore's uncommon discount
could quickly disappear Another matter ol impor
tance is the quality ol the Bookstore's merchan
dlse Does it satisfy the wants and needs ol the
student? I believe this is the most significant
challenge lacing Ihe Board of Dtreclorsone I
would like to help conquer
I am qualilied for the position I am a response
ble individual and I would otter Ihe Bookstore
posillon the time and thought it demands and
deserves
DEBIPLACE
Currently. I am the secretary ol Ihe Bookstore
Board lilting the unenpired term of a board
member In addition, I am a non traditional student
and the parent ol two children, one ol whom has
special needs
Being a non traditional student, I am aware ol
the needs of that group of students who are older
than average As the parent of a child with special
needs, an awareness has been gained lor those
students who have a disability which creates a
challenge lor them physically, mentally, or emo
tionally Being a Sophomore. I am aware ol some
ol Ihe concerns ol Ihe student who is relatively
new lo the University Having been a Board
member. I am aware ol Ihe legal and ethical
responsibilities which comes with that position
The Bookstore Board ol Directors will be facing
some difficult decisions in the coming term of of
lice I would like to continue serving you. the
membership, in the capacity ol sophomore
representative lo the Board As a Board member. I
will continue working on those issues which con
cern you and I as members book costs, ac
testability concerns, and a variety/price ratio

JOERN WETTERN
I am running for the Bookstore Board of Direc
tor* because I want to continue the work I did dur
mg the last two years in this position Not only did
I enjoy being on the Board, but I also gained e«
penence that could be beneficial to the Bookstore
and its members in the future I consider the
following as primary Issues for the Board's
agenda
-While the book discount was raised to 11%, we
have to try to make book* more affordable
-The General Books selection was expanded, but
it could be better
-The Bookstore is being made handicapped ac
cessible More can be done here loo
-Increased availability of used books should be
one of the maior concerns of the Board
-The Board has to make sure that Bookstore
employees get adequate compensation for their
work
J.
I promise you thal. If reelected, I will use my ex
perience lo make decisions thal are beneficial to
