An article on the three point play rule introduced in NGAA basketball this past season earned the award. The sports writing category was the final Hearst competition for the i‘>Hti-H7 academic. Overall, the Oregon Daily Kmerald placed lOth nationally in total Hearst awards received 'Mr. Right' Continued from Page f> the angry husband of Stone’s oversexed friend, Trish. asks him belligerently. “What do you know about Trish, tough guy?” Ulysses replies matter-of factlv. “Trish really likes sex.” Seidelman’s direction of these two characters doesn’t br ing out enough emotional in volvement, and w-riters Floyd Byars and Laurie Frank don’t give them much meat to gnaw on either. But the script writers did do a good job of weaving a tale of h r e a k n e c k - p a c e d insanity peopled with genuinely funny caricatures. And Seidelman did do a good job directing these aspects of the material. Many scenes include hilarious incidents that occur because of the idiosyncrasies of the characters. Ulysses acquires his knowledge of I rish's love of sex when he arrives at Frankie's house, and I rish, who's staving there because she’s left her philandering husband, jumps him. Ulysses’ circuits haven't been programmed to deal with the stimulation, and he ends up on the kitchen floor with his pants down and his head spun around backwards. Another appealing aspect of this film is its campy, space aged set design, kind of like a cross between new wave and the Jetsons. When* many movies of its genre have failed. “Kxtreme Prejudice." keeps on smoking with an exciting and fast-paced subplot involving government undercover agents circling around the action between Hen teen and Hailey. Hut probably the movie’s most enjoyable aspect is its abundance of slapstick humor, delivered by a potent group of both seasoned and up-and coming actors.
