The Ducks defeated Eastern Washington University from the Mountain West Athletic Con ference. 75-56, in a first-round matchup Wednesday night. The winner of Saturday's game will travel to Los Angeles to meet the winner of the USC Westem Kentucky University game for the West Regional semi-final next week. Ohio State is 24-4 and was co champion of the Big 10 Con ference with the University of Iowa. Not much is known about the Buckeyes, says coach Elwin Heiny, except that they blasted Pacific 10 Conference champion USC, 85-65, earlier this season. The Ducks split in two meetings with the Trojans this year, losing by two in Los Angeles and winning at the buzzer in Eugene. The Buckeyes are led by for ward Tracey Hall, who averages 16 points and 9.5 rebounds a game. Hall is a virtual shoe-in to be named the Big 10 Conference Player of the Year for the second straight year. Jodi Strine has been scoring 13 points a game from the guard slot. “A real concern for Ohio State is the transition game.” Heiny said. “On tape, they do look to break, and they all get up and down the court. We’re a little slower with our bigger lineup.” A scouting report from USC coach Linda Sharp revealed the Buckeyes are a big team with strong depth that can run the floor. "They have a good team, everyone’s returned from last year,” she said. “Oregon’s got the height ad vantage, as they will against most teams,” Sharp added. “Ohio State uses seven or eight players, just like Oregon. Tracey Hall is a good rebounder and an excellent scorer on the inside.
